Healthy Grass Technology (HGT) now available in Turf Blue® HGT, the most resilient Kentucky Bluegrass ever
Tangent, -- As popular and attractive as it is, Kentucky bluegrass nevertheless has numerous weaknesses. It is slow to establish, prone to disease like Summer Patch and is easy prey for insects and grubs. Today, bluegrass gets a shot in the arm.
With the development of Healthy Grass Technology (HGT), Barenburg has taken a giant leap forward in developing a hearty bluegrass which is easy to grow, fast to establish, and resistant to disease. These tremendous benefits combined with a remarkable tolerance to heavy traffic make HGT the ideal choice for any bluegrass application. All of these benefits add up to significant reduction in chemical usage, saving time, money and reducing environmental impact.
Ten Years in Development
Barenbrug scientists took over a decade to develop HGT. They researched and propagated only the most rugged Kentucky bluegrass plants in a variety of challenging environments. Once HGT passed Barenbrug’s rigorous research program, it was released for independent evaluation. Extensive trials at universities and by the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) found Barvette HGT far exceeded other top bluegrass varieties in resisting Summer Patch, billbugs, white grubs, tolerating traffic and spring green-up.
In NTEP trials, HGT actually spread to weaker neighboring plots.
“Barenbrug USA’s Barvette is an aggressive Kentucky bluegrass that demonstrated excellent stand persistence, very good stem rust tolerance and good summer patch tolerance during the 2005-2010 NTEP Kentucky bluegrass trial at Stillwater, OK. I am excited about it’s commercial release and look forward to hearing of the experiences and feedback from end users in the turfgrass industry,” said Dennis Martin, PhD, Professor & Turfgrass Extension/Research Specialist, Oklahoma State University.
According to Barenbrug, HGT is the first bluegrass that can withstand or recover very quickly from Summer Patch. Likewise, by building in a natural toughness against billbugs and white grubs, HGT is now the leader in pest-resistant bluegrass
